Bankers hope that the Financial Services Authority (OJK) will continue its stimulus policy to support the national banking industry.
This hope was conveyed by bankers in line with the challenges ahead which are still unpredictable and the Covid-19 pandemic which is also not over. Chairman of the Association of State-Owned Banks (Himbara) Sunarso appreciated the support of the OJK which has issued various policies to assist the banking industry in dealing with the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic since last year. Forestry Multi-Business Division of Climate Change Mitigation Action

The Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK) stated that the use of environmental services in the forestry multi-business model can be part of climate change mitigation actions from the land-based forestry sector.
Contribution of license holders in efforts to mitigate climate change can be done through activities that can reduce emissions and increase carbon sequestration and/or conservation of carbon stocks. Business licensing arrangements in Law No. 11 of 2020 concerning Job Creation and its derivative rules in the form of PP No. 23 of 2021 concerning Forestry Administration and other derivative regulations allow business actors to develop forestry multi-businesses. The development of business diversification in the forestry sector integrates the use of areas, timber forest products, and non-timber forest products. Minister of Environment and Forestry Siti Nurbaya said forestry management business holders were given better flexibility and were responsible for transforming forest product utilization permits. "The transformation is through the utilization of environmental services in the form of carbon sequestration and/or storage that is more integrated with other forms of business with a multi-business licensing model," said Minister Siti in a dialogue on Forestry Sector Mitigation Strategies and Actions to Fulfill NDC Targets and Utilization of Economical Carbon Values held by the Association of Indonesian Forest Entrepreneurs (APHI), recently.

Synergize to Help Residents Affected by Floods

The high rainfall in the upstream area has caused the Kelay River and Segah River to overflow,
causing flooding which has an impact on residents' settlements. The Berau Regency Government immediately visited to find out the condition of the affected residents. Supporting the Berau Regency Government in tackling the flood disaster, PT Berau Coal joined hand in hand, moving quickly to provide logistical assistance in several affected villages. As in Inaran, Pegat Bukur, and Bena Baru villages which were handed over with the Berau Regency Government, the aid was also distributed in three other affected villages, namely Tumbit Melayu, Tumbit Dayak, and Long Lanuk. This is a synergy between the government and companies to help ease the burden on residents affected by floods. Berau Regent Sri Juniarsih, who also went directly to see the condition of the residents affected by the flood, said that his party was grateful for the synergy between PT Berau Coal and the local government in helping flood-affected victims. Community Development Manager of PT Berau Coal Hikmawaty explained that this assistance was solely to reduce the burden on the community. In addition to these villages is the area surrounding the mine of PT Berau Coal. "So we go directly to provide assistance to the community," said Hikmawaty.

Child Age Affects Number of Working Women

Data from the Ministry of Women's Protection and Child Protection (Kemen PPPA) states that only 44% of married women work in the formal and informal sectors
which is lower than unmarried women. This figure further decreases to 41.78 percent when women have more than two children. The decline becomes significant at 19 percent when married women have children under five. “This figure shows that the age of children is a factor in the decline in the number of female workers. This is also influenced by people's expectations of women taking care of their children or what are commonly called domestic roles," said Rohika Kurniadi Sari, Assistant Deputy for Child Rights Fulfillment, Ministry of PPPA, in a release sent by the Indonesia Business Coalition for Women Empowerment last week. There are three challenges for female workers in Indonesia, namely the domestication of women, the care of children under five who are burdened by the mother, and the need for a temporary childcare place. Golden Agri Resources provides child care facilities within or near the company. In this way, it is hoped that the involvement of women in the male-dominated sector will be greater. Through this kind of support, it is hoped that women will no longer be trapped in the choice between having an income or raising children, because they can continue to do both. Anita Neville, Senior Vice President of Group Corporate Communication at Golden Agri-Resources, said that by offering this daycare option, it is hoped that female employees will feel comfortable traveling to other locations for work. "This is a big investment, but for us, it's an investment for the future of the company. We have to earn a living and work in attractive villages for the community, including by providing quality childcare and education facilities," explained Anita.

Trade Performance 2022, Surplus Shocks Mitigated

The Ministry of Trade projects this year's trade balance surplus to be in the range of US$31.4 billion—US$31.7 billion, a decline of around 11.39% compared to the 2021 surplus.
Head of the Trade Assessment and Development Agency (BP3) of the Ministry of Trade Kasan Muhri said the adjustment to the balance projection The trade was based on the outlook for global commodity prices which tended to decline at the beginning of this year. “The increase in the price of supercycle commodities is still the driver of the increase in the value of Indonesia's exports. However, based on previous experience, this condition will not last long,” the Ministry of Trade is aware of a number of factors that have the opportunity to reduce the trade balance score this year. In addition to the potential decline in commodity values from the cycle throughout 2021, the implementation of the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) from the European Union is also anticipated. According to Kasan, the government will fight a lawsuit filed by the European Union on a number of domestic commodities to the World Trade Organization (WTO) this year. The reason is that the European Union's trade maneuvers are contrary to the principles of world trade which have recently harmed a number of non-oil and gas export products and derivative products from Indonesia. "We will also boost Indonesia's exports to non-traditional export destinations as an effort to reduce dependence on the European Union. This is particularly the case for products subject to a carbon tax such as cement, steel, aluminium, fertilizer and electricity.”

Government Needs to Consider Direct Subsidy for Cooking Oil

The price of cooking oil that has soared since the end of 2021 is still continuing until now. Various policies, namely the domestic market obligation (DMO)
and domestic price obligation (DPO) policies to setting the highest retail price (HET) for cooking oil, have proven to be ineffective in reducing price increases and the scarcity of migrants in the market. Therefore, the government is advised to consider direct subsidies to people or direct beneficiaries. The government has issued the Minister of Trade Regulation (Permendag) No. 6/2022 concerning the Determination of the Highest Retail Price (HET) for Cooking Oil on January 26, 2022, and is effective February 1, 2022. In the Minister of Trade Regulation No. 6/2022, the HET for cooking oil is regulated with details of bulk migration Rp. 11,500/liter, simple packaging of Rp. 13,500/liter, and premium packaging of Rp. 14,000/liter. This HET policy came into effect on February 1, 2022 and at the same time revoked the Minister of Trade Regulation No. 3/2022 regarding the one-price migration policy of Rp. 14,000/liter on January 19, 2022. Through the DMO regulation issued by the Ministry of Trade, producers exporting CPO are required to supply 20% of their export quota for domestic needs. Meanwhile, the DPO regulation applies the domestic selling price of CPO at Rp 9,300 per kilogram and Rp 10,300 per liter for olein. The DMO and DPO regulations take effect on January 27, 2022. Executive Director of the Institute for Development of Economics and Finance (Indef) Tauhid Ahmad said that currently the problem was in traditional markets, both in terms of supply and prices for migrants, which were still above the HET.

Through Education, ETF Preserves Eka Tjipta Widjaja's Life Philosophy

Chairman of the Eka Tjipta Foundation (ETF) Hong Tjhin said his party is trying to preserve the life philosophy of Sinar Mas founder, Eka Tjipta Widjaja.
“The Foundation strives to preserve Eka Tjipta Widjaja's philosophy of life, namely integrity, positive attitude, commitment, continuous improvement, innovation and loyalty. Education is the foundation,” he added. The Eka Tjipta Foundation, continued Hong Tjhin, has translated this philosophy into a program that takes place with the support of Sinar Mas' business pillar, which is reaching out to the community. To commemorate the 100th anniversary of the birth of Eka Tjipta Widjaja, the ETF itself strives to keep the values and initiatives inherited from the founders resonating within Sinar Mas until the community feels the benefits. Even if it is effective, it can be replicated by other parties. “We believe that education has an important role in building self-reliance and community welfare. Moreover, Indonesia is aiming for the Golden Indonesia moment in 2045, based on superior and competent community resources (HR). It is in line with Pak Eka's philosophy," said Hong Tjhin about the life values of the founder of Sinar Mas, who died in 2019. To note, ETF is a non-profit organization that was initiated by the Widjaja family in 2006. This organization is a forum for implementing corporate social responsibility activities that are spread under the auspices of Sinar Mas.

Gandi Sulistiyanto Prepares

Gandi Sulistiyanto tried to really apply the adage "where the earth is stepped on, there the sky is upheld". The Indonesian Ambassador to South Korea not only started learning Korean.
After two months of stint in Seoul, he began to be able to pronounce some basic words in Korean. "I can introduce myself, say hello. It's enough to open a conversation or get acquainted," said the diplomat who was born in Pekalongan, from Seoul. He wanted Korean proficiency to be more than just an introduction. Because he has a higher target. "I'm ready, maybe after retiring, to be able to play in films here," said the former Managing Director of the Sinarmas Group, laughing. One way to realize that hope is to approach the CJ Group business group. Although one of the business groups already has many businesses in Indonesia, Sulis hopes that CJ Group will increase it. "They (South Korean filmmakers) often make love-love films. Just make Indonesian-South Korean love films. From Indonesia there is Reza Rahadian. Surely that sells, many are watching," he said.

Bulletproof Vest from Empty Palm Oil Bunches

Researchers from the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences IPB University have succeeded in developing a bulletproof vest whose raw material comes from the fiber of empty palm oil bunches.
Until now, Indonesia is one of the largest palm oil producers in the world. In the processing of fresh fruit bunches of oil palm, crude palm oil (CPO), kernels, empty fruit bunches, mesocarp fiber, shells, and liquid waste (POME) are produced. CPO processing usually leaves 40-60 percent of solid waste. It consists of the trunk, midrib, shell, and empty fruit bunches of oil palm (TKKS). Especially for TKKS, each hectare of oil palm plantations can produce around 7.7 million tons of EFB. As an illustration of the potential of TKKS in Indonesia, according to data from the Ministry of Agriculture in 2019, the area of oil palm cover in Indonesia reached 16.38 million hectares. This area, of course, consists of various ages of oil palm plantations which also determine its productivity. By innovator from the Department of Physics, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) IPB University, Siti Enjoys, the solid waste from palm oil processing, namely TKKS, is finally processed into natural fiber as raw material for bulletproof vests. This is good news for the utilization of palm oil waste. In addition, this innovation can contribute to saving the country's foreign exchange and support Indonesia's independence in producing the raw materials for military equipment. This is because bulletproof vests produced in Indonesia currently still use synthetic kevlar fiber which must be imported.

Limited Subsidized Housing Budget, Government Asks for Private Support

The Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) continues to be committed to increasing the convenience for Low-Income Communities (MBR) to have decent housing through the subsidized housing development program.
The active role of developer associations, the private sector, banks and the public continues to be encouraged considering that the housing (property) sector is one of the leading sectors (locomotives) in supporting the National Economic Recovery (PEN) due to the Covid-19 Pandemic. Director General (Dirjen) Housing Ministry of PUPR Iwan Suprijanto said the property sector could become one of the locomotives for national economic recovery because it has a large multiplier effect in moving other sectors, so it will also affect people's productivity. "Recovery of the national economy requires commitment from all stakeholders to support policy innovations made by the Government in order to increase the supply and demand for housing in Indonesia," said Iwan, in Jakarta, recently. In order to encourage the economic recovery, Iwan conveyed, the Ministry of PUPR needs support from all housing stakeholders to jointly increase the growth of the property sector which is balanced for all sectors, from the upper middle to the lower middle class. It is known, the Covid-19 pandemic has caused a decline in people's purchasing power, especially in the lower middle segment (MBR).

Because of the Mineral and Coal Law, 70 Percent of Building Materials Come from Illegal Mines

The Mineral and Coal Law (UU Minerba) invites views from various circles of society. In fact, after the approval of the Minerba Law on May 12, 2020, the Indonesian House of Representatives invited the emergence of illegal mining.
Executive Director of the Center of Energy and Resources Indonesia (CERI) Yusri Usman said, after the approval of Law Number 3 of 2020, many materials used for infrastructure development came from illegal mining. "It is almost certain that since the Minerba Law number 3 of 2020 was approved by the Indonesian House of Representatives on May 12, 2020, up to now, around 70 percent of building materials in the form of sand and stone and backfill for the needs of government and private infrastructure physical development projects come from land mining. illegal,” He suspects that the rampant illegal mining is due to the great need for national strategic project (PSN) activities. However, this has not been controlled by the ease of obtaining permits due to existing regulations, so, he said, it is prone to become a source of money from unscrupulous law enforcement officers. "The illegal materials are supplied and used for the needs of toll road construction, dam projects, office buildings, residential area development, sea and air ports and others, including being used for oil and gas operations, namely backfill for the needs of drill sites (well pads). " he explained.

Reconsidering the Opening of Coal Exports to State Revenue

The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) has lifted the ban on coal exports on February 1, 2022.
Although it has been lifted, the export ban still applies to coal companies that have not met as much as domestic demand (Domestic Market Obligation/DMO), or have submitted a letter Statement of willingness to pay fines or compensation funds for the shortage of DMO in 2021 according to the Decree of the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Number 13.K/HK..021/MEM.B/2022. Economist of the Center of Reform on Economics (CORE) Indonesia Yusuf Rendy assessed that the impact of the re-allowance of coal exports on state revenues would not be too significant. "In fact, with this provision, business actors will increase coal production with the aim of making profit margins on international market prices and also fulfilling domestic DMOs," said Yusuf. He projects that the DMO figure will be in the range of 160 million tons, an increase compared to last year's realization which reached 133 million tons.

"Places that are prone to crowds are city parks, traditional markets, shopping centers, and tourist attractions," During January 2022, the Satpol PP took action on 356 of the 6,962 food and beverage businesses, such as cafes, restaurants and houses. The total fine is IDR 10.5 million for violating operating hours, venue capacity, and using the QR Care application for Protect. Omicron Cases in Indonesia Increase, PPKM Becomes a Mobile Economic Solution

Daily cases of the Omicron variant of the Covid-19 virus continue to show increasing numbers in Indonesia. The Omicron variant of the Covid-19 virus spreads faster even though the process is slower than the Delta variant.
Although the severity of Omicron is low, Chairman of the Indonesian Young Entrepreneurs Association (HIPMI) Anggawira feels that PPKM needs to be implemented as a first step. "I think for the first step it is necessary to re-implement PPKM to pull the brakes first and while evaluating," said Anggawira. According to him, this omicron variant has a very fast increase and it is feared that health facilities in Indonesia cannot accommodate it even though the impact of this omicron is not as severe as the delta variant. "Although the impact of the Omicron variant is arguably not as severe as the delta variant, we shouldn't speculate, it's better if we consolidate first for PPKM to be implemented in the next 1 to 2 weeks," continued Anggawira.

International Carbon Tax Plan, Trade Minister Will Bring to WTO

Minister of Trade Muhammad Lutfi said the implementation of the carbon tax between countries is a strategy for developed countries to balance production prices in developing countries. According to him, this has the potential to become a new trade barrier.
Moreover, the plan was carried out unilaterally. “I think this is something bad for world trade. This is not a good thing," he said. Meanwhile, the Indonesian government and developing countries are studying the carbon tax plan. He also emphasized that he would take the issue to multilateral forums and the WTO. “Several countries that are working on a carbon tax policy have reasoned that the goal of this policy is to achieve a carbon neutral 2050 commitment, but it cannot be done immediately. Developing countries have different capabilities," he added. According to him, the policy has the potential to target various products. He is also still waiting for the results of discussions in the European Union and the United States to immediately draw up an anticipatory strategy. Similarly, Indonesia's Core Economist Mohammad Faisal said that this unilateral policy could be detrimental to developing countries. Therefore, he said that developing countries must be one voice in facing the plan to implement a carbon tax on imported products that several countries are starting to try.

Sinar Mas Fintech Platform (SMMA) Danamas Calls Borrower Segment Not Too Affected by the Pandemic

The productive sector peer-to-peer financial technology (P2P fintech) lending platform, PT Pasar Dana Loans or Danamas is not too worried about its performance being affected by the surge in the Covid-19 pandemic volume II and social restrictions that the government has re-imposed.
President Director of Danamas as well as Director of PT Sinar Mas Multiartha Tbk. (SMMA) Dani Lihardja explained this because his target borrower segment was not too affected by the pandemic. "The Danamas segment has always remained, namely short loans for the small business sector, pulse traders, farmers, and breeders, so that so far the commodities financed by Danamas investors are not too affected by the pandemic and social restrictions," Dani explained that their risk of default is is also relatively low, not only because the loans are short, but also because they have a 'guardian' who works closely with Danamas. For your information, most of Danamas' mainstay borrowers are based on agency ecosystems, such as credit agents, logistics, COD service providers, fruit farmers, and breeders, which are under the auspices of large corporations or related business entities called coaches.
