Eid Economic Dilemma

Bank Indonesia (BI) noted that the national circulation of currency during this year's Eid reached Rp. 145.5 trillion, an increase of 41.5%
compared to Lebaran 2020 of Rp. 109.2 trillion. This increase reflects economic growth and community mobility. According to Bisnis' monitoring, economic activity was seen in a number of areas. For example, a visit to the Tanah Abang Market in Jakarta had penetrated 100,000 visitors per day. A number of malls in Surabaya are also crowded with people ahead of Eid. Likewise with a number of tourist attractions that are crowded with visitors. In response to this condition, Deputy Director of the Institute for Development of Economics and Finance (Indef) Eko Listiyanto warned that Covid-19 testing and tracking should be encouraged. He believes cases will increase because statistics show that Covid-19 increases every time there is a long holiday. "So, the next 14 days will be a crucial point. If a further wave appears, it can hit economic optimism," he said. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Transportation has prepared a free antigen test for the public specifically for users of two-wheeled vehicles who do not have evidence of being free of Covid-19 passing through UPPKB Balonggandu, Karawang at 11 command posts. . Director General of Land Transportation Budi Setiyadi said that this was done to tighten community movement. Meanwhile, General Chairperson of the Indonesian Employers' Association (Apindo) Hariyadi B. Sukamdani said the performance of the retail sector this year's Eid was better than the previous period. However, growth is still limited. According to him, at least positive movements have occurred in the automotive and property sectors along with tax incentives. Improvements in performance were also seen in the food and beverage sector due to increased consumption in the second quarter of 2021.
