Forestry Multi-Business Division of Climate Change Mitigation Action

The Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK) stated that the use of environmental services in the forestry multi-business model can be part of climate change mitigation actions from the land-based forestry sector.

Contribution of license holders in efforts to mitigate climate change can be done through activities that can reduce emissions and increase carbon sequestration and/or conservation of carbon stocks. Business licensing arrangements in Law No. 11 of 2020 concerning Job Creation and its derivative rules in the form of PP No. 23 of 2021 concerning Forestry Administration and other derivative regulations allow business actors to develop forestry multi-businesses. The development of business diversification in the forestry sector integrates the use of areas, timber forest products, and non-timber forest products. Minister of Environment and Forestry Siti Nurbaya said forestry management business holders were given better flexibility and were responsible for transforming forest product utilization permits. "The transformation is through the utilization of environmental services in the form of carbon sequestration and/or storage that is more integrated with other forms of business with a multi-business licensing model," said Minister Siti in a dialogue on Forestry Sector Mitigation Strategies and Actions to Fulfill NDC Targets and Utilization of Economical Carbon Values held by the Association of Indonesian Forest Entrepreneurs (APHI), recently.
