Limited Subsidized Housing Budget, Government Asks for Private Support
The Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) continues to be committed to increasing the convenience for Low-Income Communities (MBR) to have decent housing through the subsidized housing development program.
The active role of developer associations, the private sector, banks and the public continues to be encouraged considering that the housing (property) sector is one of the leading sectors (locomotives) in supporting the National Economic Recovery (PEN) due to the Covid-19 Pandemic. Director General (Dirjen) Housing Ministry of PUPR Iwan Suprijanto said the property sector could become one of the locomotives for national economic recovery because it has a large multiplier effect in moving other sectors, so it will also affect people's productivity. "Recovery of the national economy requires commitment from all stakeholders to support policy innovations made by the Government in order to increase the supply and demand for housing in Indonesia," said Iwan, in Jakarta, recently. In order to encourage the economic recovery, Iwan conveyed, the Ministry of PUPR needs support from all housing stakeholders to jointly increase the growth of the property sector which is balanced for all sectors, from the upper middle to the lower middle class. It is known, the Covid-19 pandemic has caused a decline in people's purchasing power, especially in the lower middle segment (MBR).
