Government Asked to Keep Banning Coal Exports for Companies Not Complying with DMO

The government was asked to re-implement the ban on coal exports, as an effort to maintain the stability of coal supply for PLN, as well as the process of increasing the supervision of mining operations.
Member of Commission VII DPR Mulyanto said the ban was imposed on all coal entrepreneurs who have not fulfilled the obligation to deposit coal production quotas for domestic needs (DMO). According to him, coal export discretion is only given to entrepreneurs who comply with government regulations. “Rogue businessmen deserve to be punished for not being able to export their coal production. This is important, so that in the future our electrical energy security can be maintained and PLN will have a stable supply of coal,” said Mulyanto, Mulyanto urging the government to impose strict sanctions for rogue entrepreneurs who do not fulfill the DMO obligations. "As long as the government is not firm, don't expect the DMO rules to be implemented consistently. As a result, domestic coal reserves are unstable," he said.
