Earthquake From Banten Shakes Jakarta

An earthquake rocked the Banten region, Friday afternoon. The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency confirmed that the epicenter of the 6.7 magnitude earthquake was at 7.01 latitude and 105.26 east longitude around the southwest at a depth of 40 kilometers.
The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Pandeglang Regency, Banten, reported that the earthquake felt strong for 4-5 seconds in Sumur and Mandalawangi sub-districts, Pandeglang, Banten. Residents rushed out of their houses when they felt the strong shaking. According to visual reports from the field, several houses in Sumur and Munjul sub-districts, Pandeglang regency, were damaged on the roofs and terraces of houses. Earthquake shocks were also felt in the capital city of Jakarta and its surroundings. Several residents and office employees had scattered outside the building to save themselves during the earthquake. The Center for Volcanology and Geological Mitigation of the Geological Agency of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources released an earthquake due to the subduction activity of the Indo-Australian plate under the Eurasian plate in the southern part of western Java. "This earthquake is an interface earthquake that occurs in the frictional plane between the two plates," said the Center for Volcanology, yesterday. The Geological Agency reported that the epicenter of the earthquake was at sea, in the waters south of Pandeglang. Locations around the epicenter of the earthquake are generally in the form of plains and hills that are undulating to steep and prone to earthquakes.
