False Crocodile Conservation in Muba

An industrial plantation forest company (HTI) in the Muara Merang area, Musi Banyuasin Regency, South Sumatra, is making efforts to conserve the protected wildlife of the Senyulong Crocodile (Tomistoma Schlegelii).

Forest Sustainability Head of PT Rimba Hutani Mas (RHM) Bambang Abimanyu in Palembang, Sunday, said that recently his party helped release four sinyulong crocodiles from the community's catch. "There are a lot of these crocodiles in the Muara Merang River, which is adjacent to our concession area," said Bambang. For the animal release point, the company, which is a supplier partner to APP Sinar Mas, is coordinating with the local government due to community requests regarding the location point. Currently, the community is asking not to release the crocodiles in the same place because they think there are too many there. So far, the company continues to monitor the crocodile's ecosystem. There are even times when the chicks and mothers of these crocodiles come to the surface in the canals that are adjacent to the production road. "What is clear is that the conservation of these animals is also our focus besides the restoration of the burned peat forest in the Sembilang-Dangku Landscape," he said.
