Six Steps to Fill Oxygen Supply
The government has prepared a number of strategies to overcome the limited oxygen stock at several referral hospitals for Covid-19 patients in the regions.
Spokesperson for the Covid-19 vaccination of the Ministry of Health, Siti Nadia Tarmizi, said the government had at least six steps to address the problem of oxygen demand for patients with Coronavirus Disease 2019 (Covid-19). "First, convert 80 percent of industrial gas into medical oxygen needs," said Nadia in her short message yesterday. Furthermore, the Director of Prevention and Control of Directly Infectious Diseases of the Ministry of Health said the government formed an oxygen task force in each province. The task force collects data on all oxygen needs in hospitals in each province. The task force will coordinate with the central government to find a solution to the oxygen demand. Third, said Nadia, to speed up the distribution of oxygen to every hospital. Fourth, the government cooperates with state-owned enterprises, such as PT Krakatau Steel, PT Pupuk Sriwidjaja Palembang (Pusri), and PT Petrogas, to convert medical gas needs. "The last two ways are importing oxygen cylinders and receiving grant support," said Nadia. Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan said President Joko Widodo had given the green light to the plan to import 50,000 oxygen concentrator units for Covid-19 patients. According to Luhut, 50 thousand oxygen concentrator units can reduce the need for liquid oxygen by 50 thousand tubes. The government initially ordered 10,000 units of oxygen concentrators from Singapore. According to the plan, oxygen concentrators will be used in cases of COVID-19 with mild symptoms
