Minimum supply of cooking oil for one price
Chairman of the Indonesian Retail Entrepreneurs Association, Roy Mandey, said that the supply of cooking oil in retail stores is indeed very thin. The stock continues to decrease because the enthusiasm of the people to buy cooking oil for the one price program is very high. Not a few, said Roy, people are buying frantically even though sales in retail stores have been limited.
"In the first two days, the public's interest was very high. That's what made the stock in our shop run out. Even though we had limited each person to only 2 liters of cooking oil," said Roy. The cooking oil sales program for one price of Rp. 14 thousand per liter began at retail outlets on Wednesday last week and will last for the next six months. Meanwhile, sales in traditional markets will start today. Apart from high consumer demand, supply from distributors is not smooth. He said that, at the end of last week, retailers hoped that there would be new supply because producers were considered to have known about the one-price cooking oil supply program. However, what happened, he said, was that the volume of supply was very small, even almost non-existent. "We are very dependent on the supply of distributors. It is impossible for us to store them in warehouses because we are continuously monitored by the Ministry of Trade. In addition, the retail business model means that goods cannot stay in the warehouse for long," said Roy. Executive Director of the Indonesian Vegetable Oil Industry Association, Sahat Sinaga, said that the supply of cooking oil in supermarkets is usually available for two months. However, not until February, the stock of cooking oil has run out. In other words, said Sahat, retailers must make new orders so that they are sent back by producers or distributors. He also suspects that the thin supply in retail stores is caused by people who go crazy buying cooking oil. "What you need to worry about is that this packaged cooking oil is opened and then sold in bulk or even flows into the industry. I have warned the perpetrators to be punished," said Sahat.
